- Job Description:
The field organization operates in a consultative way and builds the client base with our product lines by visiting customer sites (development environments) as a team. In this position, you will gather requirements from the engineers and facilitate the evaluation process of our products. You will demonstrate Rational's solutions to the client team and show how to streamline their process. Once the product is sold to the customer, you will implement the plan for our product, which includes training and consulting with the project managers and developers, ultimately, producing a 'resident expert' at the client site. This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires the constant use of technical skills to help our customers be successful with our products and methodologies.
Responsibilities:
* Helping the team meet the account team charter: bookings, customer success, business basics, territory growth and team contribution. Every member of Rational's field organization is measured against these 5 responsibilities, from Tech Reps and Sales Reps; through Tech Leads and District Managers; up to Field Vice Presidents.
* Pre-Sales responsibilities include: doing product demonstrations and presentations, technical management of customer evaluations and most importantly understanding what problems our customers have developing software and articulating back to the customer how Rational's products and services can help them solve those problems.
* Post-Sales responsibilities include: deliver product training classes (like a 2 day Rational ClearCase class), deliver software engineering technology training classes (like a 4 day object-oriented analysis and design class), customize Rational products to best fit into customer's environment, mentor the project team to get them 'quick-started' applying Rational's tools and technologies, conduct paid consulting with project teams to transition knowledge of how to apply software best practices, and manage the account relationship (for example: monitor customer's problem reports to see if a project team needs some extra attention).
* Business Planning responsibilities include: help develop the team's business plan, develop and execute account strategies (for example, defining the necessary activities to make customers successful), help develop and execute sales campaigns (for example, determine what problems our products solve for the various individuals in the customer), help execute to and manage the business plan (for example, qualify that the team is targeting the right customers or measure that the team is progressing on its sales campaigns), effectively apply Rational and team resources toward sales campaigns (for example, ensure the team is not spending $20,000 to get a $25,000 deal)- Required Skills:
* A bachelor of science degree in a technical discipline - software engineering, computer science, computer engineering, information systems, electrical engineering, etc.
* 3+ years of software development experience working with a team developing a software application
* Worked in a team environment

Specific knowledge and skills are required to function as an effective team member: Because the requirements of each customer and team are different, it is difficult to be specific about the exact knowledge and skills required for each individual. However, it is possible to classify those skills according to type.
