Why the Name ...

Many people often ask:

"Why did you choose the name: Penguin Computing, Inc."

Well ..., its kind of simple really. Our founder, Eric Piatt , wanted a name that would have the initials "PC" (as in Personal Computer), to represent the computers on which his experience originated, and the "I" was thrown in for good measure.

P

C

I

Now that we had some initials, we needed some words to round out the name or image.

P is for Penguin

Eric wanted a name that would give a hint of where he grew up. He was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska, right in the Heart of Alaska, which gets cold enough to numb your brain. ;-) Since his brain was still numb from the cold, he decided that a Penguin would be a good representation of "The Last Frontier". Now this is kind of silly, being that Penguins don't live in Alaska. However, Eric does have an affection for Penguins (cartoons, photos, drawings, etc.), as they are quite cute, and they do live in a cold climate.

C is for Computing

We could have used the word "Computer", however we wanted a word that is more descriptive of what we are about. Basically we wanted to demonstrate some ACTION. So by using the word "Computing" we turned the noun into a verb, thus representing Progress, Action or Forward Motion.

I is for Inc.

Inc. is an abbreviation for Incorporated. There are many reasons as to why a business should incorporate, check with your accountant and/or your attorney. I'm sure that they will happily provide a list of reasons.
